Culebra, Culebra, Culebra - A place where time stands
still, and another day means just another beach...... Culebra Island sits nineteen miles east of the main island of Puerto Rico and fourteen miles west of St. Thomas, USVI. It was first settled by the Spanish in 1886 and became part of the United States in 1898. Culebra is one of the best kept secrets of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. The island is seven miles long and three miles wide, surrounded by miles of deserted beaches and beautiful coral reefs. Culebra, part of a mini archipelago consisting of 24 off-shore islands, was used as a hideout during the 18th century by pirates of the Caribbean. Culebra is one of the last remaining islands where you can still experience the Caribbean as nature intended it to be. You won't find any casinos, neon signs, tour guides, or traffic lights. Just beautiful deserted beaches, magnificent coral reefs, stunning scenery and one small sleepy village. The island is also a sanctuary for sea turtles and other protected wildlife. This Caribbean Island is as nature intended, without the hassle of tourist trade. Only the best beaches, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, and nature watching fill your day.
